I may be the only person who feels this way, but as an Ashkenazi Jew, I am deeply disturbed by the continuous references to Ashkenazis as white people of European descent. I am not white. The countries my ancestors escaped from (Poland, Russia, Lithuania) did not consider us to be "white" or European, and neither did we. And really, neither do the Americans.
So it would be really nice if non-Ashkenazi Jews would simply say to the people who are trying to destroy all of us that we are all one people, no matter where we ended up in the Diaspora.
My apologies if I have offended anyone. This has been on my mind for quite a while now.
As a mix of descendants from Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews, I can totally understand where you’re coming from. I hate filling out forms asking for ethnicity especially here in NZ…and inevitably always choose ‘other’.
¨Funny, you don´t look Jewish,¨ was a comment my husband always thought was interesting.
Someone said that to me recently!

Whining in musical prose is still whining.
Thanks for the insight...I'll go tell 10cc and a ton of Motown artists your opinion.
