AOC is not my representative, but mine, Ayanna Presley, is her good buddy. I think a lot of what AOC says regarding the current state of our country is smart and appropriate. But she does not represent all of her constituents. And she does not need to say out loud that she doesn't believe Israel has a right to exist. It's very clear.
So my answer to the many posts I see praising her and asking "Would you vote for AOC for president?" is a hard no.
AOC clearly is going for president eventually. She's two faced, slimy, mercenary, and hates Jews. It makes me ill that people can't see this. But that's how we live now...
My husband, daughter and I participated in a Free America anti-Trump rally for Independence Day. We ended up walking with people who were also shouting Free Palestine. Only one of the several people with whom we tried to have a dialog actually listened.
I told her the reason children in Gaza are dying can be traced to the unsolved question of how to conduct a moral asymmetric war. That we have wrestled with the question of how to effectively deal with people who, valuing no lives of their own people (except as shock troops and propaganda tools), weaponize their women and children-- and we've been dealing with it since Viet Nam. The Russians handled it in Afghanistan, using their own terror tactics, by directly targeting children. We recoiled. Israelis are forced into hard choices, with children and injured used as shields and with trained and armed youth fighters. We recoil. In asymmetric warfare, terrorists use what gives them the best return for their efforts. We, not in a war zone, can't stomach it.
In consequence, Israel is fighting a propaganda war they cannot, currently win. Every day we see people, so ignorant of Middle Eastern history that they can't even spell Israel, passing judgment on a fight for survival they cannot imagine. They just know that decent people don't bomb civilian housing. They can't conceive how that could become a military target. Yet, we and the Israelis have proven that it can.
However, when my spouse tried to shift the conversation, to mention the simplest ceasefire solution: the return of the hostages. No reply. When he asked if the hostages had rights--to rescue, to return, to live? No response. If there could be any rationale for the throttling deaths of the Bibas children? The mudered infants and elderly in the Oct 7 pogrom? People immediately turned their backs and simply walked away. No one wanted to hear it.
A willing participant in the propaganda war, AOC wept at our support for Israel's Iron Dome. Presumaby, also at any external support for those essential national bomb shelters. When will anyone think to weep for the waste of Gazan life caused by the inaccessible tunnel shelters? That celebrated Hamas-built, Arab-funded underground network sheltering Hamas leadership, that could have saved many, if not all, civilian casualties, had Hamas opened it to civilians as haven. The obvious solution to the question of where were the Gazans to go, when Israel gave their prior warnings, alerting civilians to coming attacks. So many morally outraged people seem willfully blind to the obvious. Is it antisemitism? Is it anti-complexity? Is it band-wagon effect? Is it that we, as people, truly have no intrinsic value even to the moral many?
Whatever. The propaganda war continues. And, as of now, we Jews are all losing.
Well, you take it wrong. I was responding to one particular issue in a discussion of that issue. As well as my own tribe, I support the enforced cessation of all killing or harming of any people for so-called ‘religious’ issues, or ethnicity or tribe or color, or ‘gender’ issues, or so-called ‘honor’ issues, or any of the myriad stupid reasons that humans produce to excuse our primate violence. I, however, am no pacifist. I support wars for freeing the oppressed and for ensuring survival. I support Ukraine. If you come for my very imperfect country, I will fight for it in any way I can.
I have spent my life saving thrown away pets and threatened wildlife. I spend my old age protesting/fighting the erosion of our constitutional rights, including those of immigrants and asylum seekers. I see around me, everywhere I look, people who devalue other lives. I am a Jew. It all matters to me.
Absolute horseshit from a mass children slaughter apologist.
When I see a picture of both Israeli and Palestinian children that have slaughtered, I feel the same level of sadness and moral outrage that they had lives stolen from them.
When you see a picture of a slaughtered Palestinian child you feel nothing.
That’s what bigotry does to person, it makes them into a callous piece of shit.
We differ in several ways. First, I do not assume what others feel. That, in itself, is shitty behavior. Second, I do not call people names and I reserve ad hominem attacks for those that I trulyvknow truly merit them. Third, I differ on who I blame for the children's death. They are pawns in the hands of a monstrous ethic that deliberately spends rather than saves them. Fourth, if you equate the collateral damage of children dying only because intransigent adults have placed them in a war zone with the deliberate, personal torture and slaughter of young women, old people, and babies, then we are not even in the same argument. Finally, I am trying to think what use your even-handed moral outrage is to anyone. If you think it's so terrible that Gaza is being systematically destroyed by insane struggle--do something--for both sets of children. Rather than being a keyboard warrior, wasting your righteous energy trying to shame an old woman.
Now is the time to nourish yourself with Mother's Chicken Matzoh Ball soup and fight against the AOCs and others of her type that would be happy with our destruction.
Government based on ethnicity, race, or religion is pernicious. Israel has a right to exist now, and to defend itself, but that doesn't mean its founding or its organization as an "ethno-state" are justified. However, replacing Israel with a Muslim ethno-state, as many Palestinians want to do, is not justified either.
“Government based on ethnicity, race, or religion is pernicious.”
Can you please explain this statement? Considering that Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, India, Iran (I'm not naming them all) are states based on ethnicity, your comment doesn't make sense.
Israel gives preference to people it considers jewish. It also discriminates among jews, in that it gives preferential treatment to orthodox jews. None of that applies in any of the places you mention, or in any other Western Democracies, that I am aware of.

I take it you support the millions of blacks killed by Muslims in Africa
The hundreds of thousands Christians Muslims have and are killing....this is. A world wide Muslim religious war ...
Typical bigot, starts whataboutery about Muslims.
I’m against all mass children killers. Are you?
…except the ones invading Israel.

Nah you’re lying.
Fock AOC. She is dreck on the sole of my shoe. And she stinks.
Love it. Spoken as if from my Mother's lips.

All lives matter! And many of us do believe and defend that Jewish lives DO matter… very much so! 🇺🇸🫶🇮🇱
So beautiful. I didn't know how much i needed to read this today. Thank you. I swear if i was 40 years younger i would move to Israel.

Haidar, you poor schmuck. When you got into the line for brains, you got yours with a slotted spoon. Most of it fell to the ground.
